“I see corporate affairs as bringing the outside world in and then bringing the inside world out. It’s… my job to… communicate to the public and politicians and the media and our stakeholders [that this is what] the GBGB is doing… for the betterment of the sport.”

Abbie MacGregor, Director of Corporate Affairs, Greyhound Board of Great Britain

Show Notes

Every industry under public scrutiny needs someone willing to make its case — and for UK Greyhound racing, that person is Abbie MacGregor. As the newly appointed Director of Corporate Affairs for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), Abbie has stepped into a role that didn’t exist before her: telling the sport’s story to the public, the press, and policymakers, while making sure the industry itself understands how it’s perceived from the outside.

Before joining the GBGB, Abbie spent nearly a decade running her own reputational management consultancy, representing some of the most scrutinized industries in Britain — gambling, tobacco, alcohol, and social media among them. That background, paired with a family tradition of Sunday afternoons at the track while she was growing up, has shaped her approach to the GBGB’s biggest challenge: shifting public perception, building trusted voices within the sport, and making the case for Greyhound racing’s place in British culture.

In this episode, host John Parker sits down with Abbie to talk about the difference between animal rights and animal welfare, the PR mistakes the sport has made over the years, and the strategies she’s using to turn trainers, owners, and the dogs themselves into the sport’s best advocates.
